Easily navigate Back & Forth in Internet Explorer


To navigate to the previous or next page in Internet Explorer, hold the Shift key while turning the mouse wheel.

Disable Windows Explorer Thumbnail View



You may have noticed that your windows sometimes freeze's when you open a folder that contains too many pictures in it, this is because of the thumbnail view of the images that windows shows. You can disable the Windows Explorer's ability to show the Thumbnail View whenever you open the folder that contain too many images.
To do this, Open regedit (registry editor) Navigate to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" and change the value of ClassicViewState to 1.
Close regedit and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

Clear Type Font for better look


Windows XP has ClearType (Microsoft's anti-aliasing font display technology) font option which is not enabled by default, To enable this: Right click on the desktop -> select Properties -> Appearance -> Effects -> select ClearType from the second dropdown menu.

Disable The Right Click on the Taskbar


      It is possible to disable right clicking on the taskbar. Start regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and Modify/Create DWORD Value of Data type REG_DWORD Named "NoTrayContextMenu"
Setting for Value Data: 0 or 1 (0 = Enabled / 1 = Disabled) Close regedit and reboot computer.

Disable those ANNOYING Windows Popup Balloon Tips



      If you are annoyed by the Balloon tips show at the taskbar in windows XP, you can disable it, to disable it Start Regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
and create a DWORD value of EnableBalloonTips Give it a value of 0. To enable it, give it a value of 1.
Note: Restarting of computer or log off once is required to take effect.

Save files with different file extensions in Notepad


     To save a document with an extension other than the one a program wants to use, enclose the entire name in quotation marks. For example, if you run Notepad and save a file under the name file1.dba, it will actually be saved under the name file1.dba.txt.
But if you type "file1.dba" (with quotes) then the document will be saved under the name file1.dba. Note that a document so-named cannot be opened via double-clicking since the extension is no longer ".txt"

Disable Desktop Cleanup Wizard


      The Desktop Cleanup Wizard displays a list of the desktop icons that have not been used for 60 days or more, enabling you to remove those icons that you don't want on your desktop. You can retrieve icons you have removed by opening the Unused Desktop Shortcuts folder on your desktop. If you want to disable this annoying feature you can follow these steps:
Right-click on an empty space on the Desktop then click Properties. Select the "Desktop" tab. Click "Customize Desktop" button. At the bottom uncheck the box labeled 'Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard Every 60 Days'.

Hiding "Manage" on Right-Click context menu of My Computer


   If you want to remove Manage from Right-Click context menu of My Computer, Start Regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer
and create a DWORD value called NoManageMyComputerVerb and set the value to 1. You need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

Disable Windows Messenger at startup if unused

      If you don't want Windows Messenger to start automatically, you can disable it, to do this: Open Windows Messenger Click Options in Tools menu In Options click on Preferences tab Uncheck the "Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts" checkbox.
